A superhero to inspire us all…
We all have a superhero to look up to, one that represents our fantasies, our dreams and irregularities with reality. From a young age we end up picking a figure that we like best, superman for his god like powers, batman for his deduction skills, captain America for his intentions, and so forth. However, it was none of these heroes that piqued my interest. It was rather the one that opposed these heroes; a super villain is what I am hinting at.
Of course even among these villains there are some that are mad, cruel, and have their own share of super powers. But among these, one man, a man of everything that represents the best and worst of humans, stood out. Lex Luthor, Superman’s arch nemesis, is whom I am describing. What made him so overwhelming, such a figure of untouchable power in my head? It was simply his humanity.
Lex Luthor had no special powers, nothing to make him stand out from the crowd of villains or even the average populace. BUT he had something that made him a threat to not only the god-like superman, but also all the superheroes. He had drive, desire, and a need to have power. That drive is what made a mere mortal like him, stand up and repeatedly put super man on the edge of his capabilities.
Even after being defeated time and time, Lex would rise up, never giving in to Superman’s intense advantage. He knew how to work the system, and would always be able to rise back and get ever so close to achieving his goals. His drive, his striving for his goals is what makes him oh so amazing. He represents the capabilities of men, the ability to challenge what may seem an immovable wall or an omnipotent force, and always grow ever closer to success.
Lex Luthor, wasn’t just another man, just another villain, he was in the quickest sense, the best and the worst humanity had to offer. He was and will always be my fictional idol, maybe not for his moral code, but rather for his determination and courage. He is inspiring because he shows that dreams of the wildest proportion are not limited to the fictional world for men with wealth and powers, but rather even the common man can succeed in his efforts so long as they have drive and strive to seek what they wish to achieve.
